I had a great time working at Binh Duong University as an English Teacher. The staff, especially Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vu and Mrs. Karen Hamilton Nguyen, here are incredibly supportive and will always try their best to answer whatever questions or concerns you may have and it’s that warmth and kindness combined with their professionalism that makes BDU a great place to work at, especially for foreigners.
Teaching English was definitely a task in and of itself, with all the complexities of the language, and teaching it to students who don’t necessarily have extensive knowledge of it, but that’s what you’re there for! It’s a challenge, but you learn new ways to overcome those challenges, and it definitely becomes very rewarding. You know you’ve done a proper, if not decent, job when your students invite you out for dessert after class!
Rather than just being a tourist and passing through the city, you get to live and interact within the community, and I think that’s one of the best ways to get to learn about the world and about yourself, and also to make you own contribution to others’ education. That’s definitely priceless.
